Hello!
My name is Edith Ballinas, and I am pursuing my dream of becoming an Interior Designer. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and started my Interior Design studies at Houston Community College, freshly out of High School. Apart from my passion for Interior Design, I love to bake and make pastries for my family every now and then. I have two cats, Michi and Pisky, who I deeply cherish and are my source of happiness. I consider myself to be an introvert most of the time, but get to know me and I can be a very spirited and benevolent individual.
Why Interior Design?
I’ve been captivated by all things design since Elementary School. It began with crafting miniature homes from shoeboxes and cardboard. I enjoyed learning AutoCAD, SketchUp, and creating foam models in my High School Architecture class. I would always pay attention to the smallest of details, despite them taking up most of my time. In college, I found myself intrigued when learning and exploring the historical roots of Interior Design. I found myself especially drawn to biophilic and minimalist design. However, I am not afraid of working with other styles because I am always looking into diverse styles that push creative boundaries. Whenever I am asked what it is that I love the most about Interior Design, I say: What I love the most about Interior Design is the unlimited paths and creativity there is, that ensures not only the functionality and aesthetics of a space, but also ensures the happiness and well-being of anyone and everyone which I consider to be the most important part.
My Goals
As of the Summer Semester 2025, I am working toward earning my A.A.S. degree in Interior Design as a full-time student at Houston Community College. I hope to secure an internship with a design firm or similar employer that will offer hands-on experience and help me improve. I am eager to gain as much experience as I can during my internship, fully aware that making mistakes, learning from them, and improving are just as valuable as actual experience. After earning my A.A.S. degree in Interior Design, I plan to transfer to Stephen F. Austin State University through the Houston Community College program to continue my education and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. While working toward my bachelor’s, I will follow the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners’ guidelines and requirements to qualify for and pass the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Exam, aiming to become a registered Interior Designer.
