Hello!

My name is Edith Ballinas, and I am an emerging Interior Designer based in Houston, Texas. I began my design journey at Houston Community College shortly after graduating high school, driven by a deep passion for creating spaces that feel intuitive, supportive, and emotionally resonant.

As a designer, I’m naturally introspective and thoughtful, but I bring a spirited and warm energy to the people and projects I connect with. I value empathy, intentionality, and the quiet power of design that truly reflects the needs and feelings of its users.

Outside of design, I enjoy baking pastries for my family and spending time with my two beloved cats, who bring joy and balance to my everyday life.

Why Interior Design?

My interest in design began in childhood, when I spent hours crafting miniature homes from shoeboxes and cardboard. That early curiosity grew stronger in high school, where I enjoyed learning AutoCAD, SketchUp, and building foam models in my architecture classes. I’ve always been drawn to details, even the smallest ones, because they shape how a space feels and functions.

In college, exploring the historical foundations of Interior Design deepened my appreciation for the discipline. I’m especially inspired by biophilic and minimalist design, yet I enjoy working across a range of styles that challenge creativity and expand my perspective.

What I love most about Interior Design is its limitless potential, the ability to blend creativity, functionality, and emotional impact. Design has the power to enhance well‑being, support everyday living, and create spaces where people feel genuinely comfortable and understood. That purpose is what motivates me and continues to guide my path in this field.

My Goals

I am pursuing my A.A.S. degree in Interior Design as a full‑time student at Houston Community College. My next step is to secure an internship with a design firm or related organization where I can gain hands‑on experience, strengthen my technical and creative skills, and continue growing through real‑world practice.

After completing my A.A.S., I plan to transfer to Stephen F. Austin State University through the HCC partnership program to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. While working toward my bachelor’s, I will follow the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners’ requirements to qualify for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam, to become a registered Interior Designer.

My long‑term objective is to build a career grounded in thoughtful, user‑centered design—creating spaces that are functional, meaningful, and emotionally supportive.
